The owner of Chateau Gloria Henry Martin use to be the mayor of Saint Julien. He purchsed some plots of vineyards next to the Chateau from Leoville Poyferre, Gruaud Larose, St Pierre, Duhart Milon. Since the land was sold to Martin the Vineyards were disclassified, but the quality remains the same or even better. Gloria should be at least a 3rd Classified Growth. However this unclassification fact makes this wine an excellent value. It can be aged 15 up to 20 years.
Henri Martin, Gloria's owner and once Mayor of Saint Julien was one of M‚doc's legendary figures. In 1956 he became President of the Interprofessional Committee of Bordeaux Wines. Beginning in the 1940's, Henri Martin assembled the vineyards of Chƒteau Gloria with parcels of land from such neighboring vineyards as L‚oville-Poyferr‚, Gruaud-Larose, Saint Pierre and Duhart-Milon. The property is now run and managed by his son-in-law, Jean-Louis Triaud.Round, generous, rich, long-lasting with cedary and spicy bouquets. The wine of Chƒteau Gloria shows well young, and also ages well.
