1994 was a mythical year in Rioja - maybe the best in the last 30 years - and from this vintage, Viña Ijalba created a masterpiece.
This Reserva "Special Selection" represents the highest example of quality from Viña Ijalba and is the only wine in the world composed of 50% Graciano and 50% Tempranillo varietals. This "Alta Expresion" wine comes from grapes harvested by hand from the oldest and least productive vineyards followed by a secondary cluster selection in the winery. Barrel fermented and then aged in new French oak barrels for two years followed by an additional two years bottle ageing before being released from the winery.
Reserva Especial is a wine of "Alta Expresion" and should be understood as such, a wine of great structure, body and color that can easily be aged for 15 years or more.
